This Privacy Policy describes how Uriel ("we," "our," or "the App") handles user information. Uriel is designed as a dedicated tracking application for Simkl watch progress. We hold user privacy in the highest regard, ensuring a transparent, secure, and tracker-free experience.

Overview

Uriel is a client application built to interface directly and securely with Simkl. The App acts as a visual interface for managing your watching progress, status cards, and lists.

We do not run, maintain, or own any backend servers or databases. All communication occurs directly between your device and Simkl’s secure API endpoints.

Data Collection & Usage

We do not collect or store any of your personal data on our servers. Uriel operates completely serverless from the developer's side, ensuring your information remains private.

  • No Data Collection: We do not collect, harvest, monitor, or transmit any of your personal information, email addresses, search queries, or watch activity logs to any external server owned by the App developers.
  • Local Storage on Your Device: All app settings, configuration preferences, and local profile details (username/avatar) are saved locally and securely on your own device using sandboxed local storage (Isar Database & SharedPreferences).
  • Simkl Account & Remote Storage: When you log in to Simkl, your watchlist status, watch history, and episode progress are stored and managed directly on Simkl's servers under their privacy policy. Uriel only interfaces with Simkl's secure APIs to display and update this progress on your behalf.

App Permissions

To operate correctly on Android devices, Uriel requires a minimal set of device permissions. Each permission is strictly used for core functionality:

  • Internet Access (INTERNET): Required to fetch metadata, poster artwork, user watchlist details, and sync your watch progress with Simkl.
  • Network State (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): Required to check if an active internet connection is available before triggering API sync requests.
  • Post Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Optional permission used to show status progress updates and tracking notifications.

No Sensitive Storage Permissions

In compliance with Google Play Store guidelines, Uriel does not request sensitive storage permissions (such as READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, or MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE).

Third-Party Services

Uriel connects to the following third-party services to provide tracking and rich presentation features:

  • Simkl API: All metadata fetching, watchlist aggregation, and tracking updates are processed through Simkl. Their privacy practices are governed by the Simkl Privacy Policy.
  • Discord (Rich Presence): If enabled, the App connects directly to the Discord Gateway to display your current watching status as a Rich Presence activity.

Data Security

We secure your data by ensuring it is never stored outside your local device or your official Simkl profile.

All API transactions, sync actions, and credentials exchanges are encrypted in transit using Secure Socket Layer (SSL/HTTPS) technology.
